Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Jackson MS
1048 PM CST Fri Feb 21 2025

...New AVIATION...

.MESOSCALE UPDATE...
Issued at 953 PM CST Fri Feb 21 2025

Surface high centered over the Ohio valley will continue to
provide a light north-northeast wind tonight but there will be
more mid and high level clouds streaming overhead. These clouds
will help hold temperatures up more than last night and the
lighter wind won`t result in as cold of windchill temperatures.
Forecast remains on track. /22/

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 258 PM CST Fri Feb 21 2025

Through Tomorrow...

An Arctic airmass continues to entrench itself in the area with
observed temps below seasonal norms through the day tomorrow. Strong
cold air advection will continue through the night as gusty
northerly winds remain in place. Refreezing of any lingering
moisture will be possible tonight, although we are not signaling
dangerous cold/cold weather advisory it may be prudent to bring in
plants and pets the next couple of days as we dip below freezing
overnight.

The rest of the weekend...

The surface ridge will shift east of the area, with a gradual
moderating trend in temps through Sunday. This will be followed by a
Southern stream disturbance which will track well southward near the
Gulf Coast. This will spread mainly light rain northward across
areas primarily south of I-20 from early Sunday morning through
Sunday afternoon or early evening. At this time we are not
forecasting any freezing rain/sleet, however with temperatures at or
just below freezing right around the onset of rain (6AM-9AM), there
could be small areas that see short lived freezing rain, to the
southwest.

Next week...

Broad surface high pressure will build across the central CONUS
early next week, resulting in dry weather conditions in our area and
temperatures returning to above normal by the middle of the week.
There is a trend for isolated showers and possible thunderstorms
(mainly in the north) Thursday. Confidence is high that
precipitation and coverage from this system will be minimal; and
thus have minimal impacts. After this quick bout of rain, expect
the week to finish out with balmy temperatures in the 70s.
